The future strength of the Commonwealth depends upon the healthy development of our youngest citizens. The KIDS (Kentucky Invests in Developing Success) NOW initiative builds upon existing resources, fosters public-Private partnerships, insures collaborative planning and implementation and mobilizes communities.
The main goals of the KIDS NOW Initiative are:
- Support and strengthen families,
- Assure that all children grow and develop to their full potential,
- Provide high quality, accessible, affordable early care and education options, and
- Promote public awareness of the importance of the first years for the well-being of all Kentucky’s citizens
The KIDS NOW initiative was established in House Bill 706, passed unanimously by both legislative chambers in 2000 and funded with 25% of the Kentucky Tobacco Settlement Funds. In 2011, Governor Steven Beshear renewed our commitment to enhancing early childhood outcomes and school readiness by creating the Early Childhood Advisory Council and the Governor’s Office of Early Childhood.
